A Corinthians Kind of Love

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!

TODAY’S MESSAGE:

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is a well-loved and widely-quoted Scripture, often read at weddings.

What 1 Corinthians 13 love is:

  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Rejoicing in truth
  • Bearing up under all hardships
  • Protecting
  • Believing
  • Trusting
  • Hoping
  • Understanding of the faults of others
  • Never failing
  • Persevering

What 1 Corinthians 13 love is not:

  • Envious
  • Proud
  • Boastful
  • Inappropriate
  • Rude
  • Selfish
  • Short-tempered
  • Evil
  • Accepting of sin

Strive to display each and every one of the points in 1 Corinthians 13. Here’s how:

Be patient. Whatever your work, be willing to put in even more long hours.

Be  kind and never selfish. Help the poor; do not boast about your wealth —  rather, share it. Since you know everything you have came from God, do not fall prey to the sin of pride.

Don’t be jealous of others. Be thankful for all God has given to you—both materially and otherwise—and dedicate your life to Him and to your family.

Do not be not rude to anyone, least of all those you care about. Instead, be respectful, supporting, and understanding.

Don’t  demand things your way, nor become angry when you don’t get something you wish for. Don’t “keep score,” bring up past arguments, or hold grudges.

Never take pleasure in the misfortunes of others. Do not secretly enjoy hearing of them being wronged.

Never give up. Some translations say, “bears all things.” Keep going, no matter what, because you have hope and faith that everything will turn out for the best.

Be filled to overflowing with the kind of love that lasts forever!
