The Second Sunday of Advent

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Matthew 2:6

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

TODAY’S MESSAGE:

The second candle represents PEACE and is called “Bethlehem’s Candle.” It was foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, which is also the birthplace of King David.

This candle is also purple, and on this week we reflect upon preparing for the arrival of the Saviour. This is why you’ll sometimes hear it referred to as the “preparation candle.”

In today’s world of turmoil we must all wonder if peace is even possible. Certainly you and I are incapable of ending wars and influencing politicians. But we can definitely bring peace to our own little corner of the world.

  • Try to be more patient with servers and cashiers. Smile at them instead of complaining if they are a little slow.
  • Don’t get upset with other drivers, even if they cut you off in traffic. Letting it go is more peaceful than honking your horn loudly.
  • Count to 10 before giving a short answer to anyone, whether it be your spouse, your kids, or a coworker. Use that 10 seconds to pray.
